Language grows through interaction. The Power of Talk webinar series, presented by Dr. Allison Slone, Curriculum Designer for IMSE and Ed.D., CCC-SLP, Reading Science, explores how intentional, purposeful conversations support students’ language development and lay the groundwork for literacy learning. Across three sessions, educators will explore how talk builds strong language foundations, deepens comprehension during read-alouds, and strengthens students’ ability to express ideas through storytelling. Grounded in research and practical classroom strategies, each session provides educators with concrete tools they can immediately apply to amplify student voice and language growth.
Part 2: Read-Alouds that Build Language Through Talk
Interactive read-alouds are a powerful context for strengthening oral language and literacy development. In this webinar, presented by Dr. Allison Slone, Curriculum Designer for IMSE and Ed.D., CCC-SLP, Reading Science, educators will explore how intentional planning and purposeful questioning, both before, during, and after read-alouds, support comprehension, vocabulary development, and sentence complexity. Participants will learn evidence-based strategies to promote rich discussions, scaffold language for diverse learners, and utilize books as a catalyst for meaningful conversations and language growth.
