The Power of Practice

Feb. 24, 2026, 9 p.m.

Practice is more than repetition.  It’s how students learn to access, use, and retain what they’ve been taught. Awareness of practice forms and frequency, and how they can be combined across stages of learning, enables educators to design effective instruction. Join us for this webinar with Dr. Jamey Peavler where we will explore what research tells us about how much practice students need, what kind of practice works best, and how practice supports long-term learning.

You’ll learn how different forms of practice help students build strong connections and retrieve information more easily when they need it. We’ll discuss practical ways to revisit old learning while introducing new content, space practice over time, and gradually shift responsibility from teacher-guided practice to independent work. When practice is intentional and well-designed, it turns instruction into lasting learning.

Objectives:

By the end of this webinar, participants will be able to:

  • Explain the different types of practice and how each supports student learning
  • Identify which forms of practice are most effective at various stages of learning
  • Apply different practice strategies within a structured literacy lesson to improve student outcomes
